About the FPI Grants Initiative

The Family Process Institute (FPI) call for the Grants Initiative is now closed.

The call for this initiative will reopen in April of 2025.

At least two grants are awarded annually to Early Career Professionals (ECP) and/or doctoral students residing in the United States of America for their research or clinical projects.

Professionals and doctoral students may be in varied areas of scholarship (e.g., family medicine, marriage and family therapy, nursing, psychiatry, psychology, social work, etc.). All proposals must demonstrate evidence of critical systems thinking and attention to social justice to advance the FPI vision and mission. Applicants may propose projects with budgets less than $5000.00.

Grants are offered in three main categories:

Applied Practice Grant: propose activities to (a) enhance individual practitioner or systems proficiency, (b) advance diversity and social justice, and/or (c) support the development, implementation, evaluation or dissemination of innovative activities related to the FPI vision and mission. Early Career Research Grant: propose scholarship in broad areas of (a) theory development, (b) advancement of diversity and social justice, and (c) prevention, health promotion, treatment, or treatment support intervention development related to the FPI vision and mission. Dissertation Grant: propose scholarship in broad areas of (a) systems thinking and knowledge (b) training and practice related to families, and (c) advancement of diversity and social justice related to the FPI vision and mission. Click on the tile to the right for additional information.

Grant Submission Requirements

  • Proposals must explicitly address how the research addresses the FPI mission and vision. They must be 5 – 10 pages in length, double-spaced and written in APA style.
  • Proposals should follow a scientific structure which includes specific aims and hypotheses; background and significance of the proposed research to the FPI vision and mission; the research design and method; A description of targeted sample, sample size and proposed analysis;
  • Proposals must detail the amount requested and the proposed budget; expected deliverables such as presentations, publications, and larger grant proposals.
  • Proposals must include a current curriculum vitae and the name and contact information for the grants finance person at the institution.
